Exploring the optimistic future of a country emerging from a turbulent past, this two-week study abroad program investigates a globalized Rwanda across time. Based in the capital city of Kigali, students will examine Rwanda's colonial history, the 1994 genocide, and the country's remarkable post-conflict development. Additionally, two excursions are planned to the Butare-Huye region and Akagera National Park. Emphasizing societal reconciliation and economic development, students will delve into the dynamic ways Rwanda has shifted its heavy past into a bright future through explorations of culture, history, wildlife tourism, biodiversity conservation, NGO and other community-based projects, foreign investment, and nationally-led development—making Rwanda a model for African development.
